in other news, jiffener is annoyed
At whom is jiffener annoyed? Wal-Mart, for refusing to sell Jon
Stewart's book America:
Wal-Mart Nixes Stewart's America
Actually, this particular story doesn't cause me to be as irritated at Wal-mart as I was earlier today when I called the Wal-Mart corporation a bunch of thought-controlling censoring bastards. I think I had just read this or something like it.
I actually feel a little less annoyed now that I've contemplated a bit. Everyone that sells anything has the right to evaluate what they want to buy, and pick and choose what they then want to sell. What is annoying is that the standards seem pretty goofy. Basically, if I was making those decisions at Wal-Mart, the shelves would hold some very different selections.
Regardless, it turns out that you can still buy it at Walmart.com. So they aren't completely making it unavailable, they are just not displaying it on their shelves, which is not totally out of character for them--it's not like they have an adult DVD section or sell Swank at their stores.
So, basically, I'm not sure what the point of this post was.
But anyway, it's a pretty funny book, and I recommend it. I ordered it from Amazon.com.
Still, I could be incited to rebel once again from my mainstream consumerist bargain hunting tendencies and shop elsewhere if it turned out that Wal-Mart wasn't selling, oh, I don't know, maybe DIXIE CHICKS CD's??
I don't even want to know right now. My blood pressure is high enough as it is.
